New Zealand Opposition Leader Bill English to Retire

Former prime minister to step down as leader of National Party, effective Feb. 27

WELLINGTON, New Zealand—Bill English, the former prime minister and leader of New Zealand’s center-right National Party will step down later this month.

Mr. English, also a former finance minister, led National to an election in September last year that eventually ended the party’s nearly decadelong incumbency.
