Locate the best satnav deals

Satnavs are going to be on lots of Christmas lists this year. To help you ensure you don't spend more than you need to, we have researched where to buy for three different price ranges. As always, if you have found a better deal elsewhere, please post the details below.

Under £100

Garmin Nuvi 1340

This budget option packs plenty of features with maps of the UK, Ireland and Western Europe (22 countries). It has a built-in Cyclops speed-camera database (including fixed camera locations and mobile hotspots), it announces street names before you are about to turn and has a 4.3in touchscreen display.

The best online price is offered by Amazon at £92.69.

In store the cheapest deal is more than £100: Halfords provides the best in-store price of £119.99 if you walk in to a store today (check availability first), but if you "reserve and collect", you can pick it up in many local stores the next day for £102.35.

TomTom Start

The UK and Ireland version is available on Amazon for £89.30 and in-store through Halfords for £94.99.

Under £200

TomTom Go 550 Live

The price climbs to over £200 in many stores, however Comet are £159.99 online and £179.99 in-store. It comes with a year of live services, handsfree calling, voice command and control and has a 4.3in display covering the UK and Ireland. You can also get a refurbished one from TomTom for £139.99.

Alternatively, the Garmin Nuvi 1490TV sneaks into this price range with Pixmania at £194.40 including postage. This 5in device allows you to pick up digital stations and radio when you are in Europe.

Around £200

TomTom Go Live 1000

This device comes with a year of Live Services. Among other features it also has a 4.3in fluid touchscreen, HD Traffic, which is updated every two minutes and also has voice command and control. Last month, The Gadget Show rated it as best luxury satnav. I have priced the UK and Ireland satnav – though a European version is available for a higher price.

The best online price is with Pixmania at £190 plus delivery, which starts at £6.70 followed by Amazon at £200.90.

Best in-store price is with John Lewis for £229.95

Garmin Nuvi 3760T

Top-rated by Which? who says "not only is it intuitive to program, but it has good-quality audio combined with an exceptionally clear, bright map display, making it very easy to follow directions and get to your desired destination". The maps included are UK, Ireland and Europe.

Handtec offer the best price of £206.67, closely followed by Halfords at £208.24.

John Lewis has the best in-store price of £245.
